After last weeks 64point thriller, Carlisle looked to push on and put another good performance in back in this league.
Kirkby Lonsdale have had a torrid time the last few seasons, which we know only too well, so it was important for Carlisle to make sure this wasn't the beginning of a return to form for the Visitors.
Carlisle started well from the off. Though they butchered a certain walk in try after 5 minutes, Jason Israel made sure of the first try, crashing over by the posts after a Carlisle 5m line out, and converting his own try. 7-0
It only took another 5 minutes for their second when another 5m line out saw Tom Graham totally unmarked on the blindside and a neat pass from Guy Graham saw him canter over the line. 12-0
Carlisle were having the majority of possession and territory in the half, but just couldn't find an opening in the visitors defence. Gradually Kirkby started to find a few holes in the home defence and with Carlisle infringing on their 22 in front of the posts, it was an easy 3 points for the visitors. 12-3
Carlisle continued to press up, with the visitors defence holding firm, and as Carlisle searched for another try down the right, a pass out wide was intercepted by the Kirkby winger and he was away down the touchline showing a clean pair of heels to everyone, to score right on half time 12-10
Facing into the wind in the second half, it only took Carlisle 4 minutes to increase the score, Jason Israel crashing over for his second and Carlisle's third try 19-10
Carlisle were firmly on the ascendancy, and other period of pressure in Kirkby's 22 saw Lloyd Clark go over for the bonus point try, converted by Israel 26-10.
Then 5 minutes later just as Kirkby seemed to have found a period of possession and territory, Carlisle secured a turnover on their own 22, and with Kirkby stretched, the ball was quickly swung across to Rhys Callaghan on the wing, who put on the afterburners and neatly side stepped the fullback for Carlisle's fifth try. 33-10
Then if we are honest it looked like Carlisle just switched off, and Kirkby took full advantage of this loss in concentration grabbing a try on the hour, then a third right at the end to make the score 33-20.
A another good performance by Carlisle, though the drop in intensity in the second half was a concern. Even though the game was beyond Kirkby Lonsdale's reach they kept going right to the end and were well worth the last couple of tries they put away.
Carlisle will want to put the last 20 minutes of this game to rights on the training ground as they face a difficult away game at Middlesborough next week.
